How to obtain IP address of an email sender in
Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook Client
The purpose of this article is to show the process involved in
tracing of an email. The first step required to tracing an email
is finding out the headers of the email. What are headers? Email
headers are lines added at the top of an email message that are
used by servers as the email goes on route to get delivered.
Generally email clients only show the standard To, From, and
Subject headers, but there are more.
Google’s Gmail
1. Log into your account
and open the email.
2. Click the down arrow next to Reply link. Choose Show Original
from the list.
Now start looking for a line start with “Received: from“. You’ll
notice there are multiple Received From’s in the message header
because the message header contains the IP addresses of all of
servers involved in routing that email to you.
To find the first computer that originally sent the email,
you’ll have to find the Received From that’s most below of the
page.
Yahoo Mail
1. Log into your account and open the email
2. At the top right or bottom , there is a drop-down menu where
you will see Standard Header and Full Header.
3. Click on it and choose Full Header.
4. Follow the similar step in Google’s Gmail.
Microsoft Outlook
1. Open the email in Outlook
2. Go to View at the top menu and choose Options under your
email window.
3. At the bottom you’ll see the Internet Headers box.
Tracking the location of an IP address

you need to check the location of the IP address. There are many
